Airports arguably have some of the most valuable air space of all public space venues. With the mix of transient business travelers, tourists and airport professionals (whether they be staff of the airport corporation and its many tenants or contractors providing essential operational services), the airport campus provides one of the most compelling cases for on demand access to network resources and ultimately the Internet.  This revenue opportunity has not been missed by the major telecommunication carriers with most major airports globally providing some form of on demand Internet access via wireless technologies and kiosks. Although this model has been extremely successful, amigopod believes there are further opportunities for the Airport authorities to draw revenue from their valuable air space.
 
Whilst the commercial hotspot serves the individual business traveler that needs to quickly check email and web content prior to boarding a flight, this model is often inflexible in terms of branding, tariff definition and potentially restrictive through application of revenue sharing models.
 
amigopod allows for the independent deployment of basic public access applications in designated areas such as business lounges, conference facilities or branded airlines lounges that may not be affiliated with or covered by the broader carrier commercial hotspot service. With complete flexibility in branding of the customer experience in each defined area of the campus, tariff definition and collection in the control of the airport authority, amigopod can provide a powerful supplementary public access service to those airport visitors that don’t exactly fit the mold of a traditional hotspot customer.
 
The Airport Authority can also obviously enjoy the benefits that many of our Corporate and Enterprise customers do today, by providing temporary secure access to their network resources for authorized professional visitors or contractors working on or behalf of the authority for a defined out of time. amigopod becomes the enabling technology to their existing security infrastructure to provision these users on and off the network during their engagement on site.
 
Other transportation methods such as Rail, Bus, Ferry also benefit from the same captive audience either waiting to travel or in transit, that require network connectivity to remain productive in today’s face paced society. Whether in the departure lounges of these modes of transport or increasingly in many cases on board, the demand and delivery of Internet access is becoming a major competitive advantage in the transportation industry. Unlike the airports, these other modes of transportation have not been afforded the same attention from the carriers to provide commercial hotspot services. amigopod can provide an extensive visitor management solution covering traditional hotspot services as well as corporate visitor management in the office environment and transport hubs alike.
